Have you seen negative comments and reviews from a public figure: “Is Bro Bo Sanchez a Scam?” “Is Chinkee Tan a Scam?” “Is Fibo Lim a Scam?” In this article, I’m going to share with you the truth about negative marketing and why marketers use this tactic for their own gain in the expense of bringing down other people.

Jim Rohn once said:

I’ve been selling and marketing online for the past years. And I’ve seen both the positive side and the negative side of marketing.

The normal route to growing your business and your brand is by actually building it from ground up.

You provide content, value, you sell, get feedback and eventually grow your business.

Unfortunately, not all marketers and entrepreneurs want to follow the long road and process to success. They want to shortcut it by taking advantage of existing industry leaders. Trying to bring them down for their own gain.

What do I mean by that?

If you see contents on blogs, Youtube or on any different platforms, you’ll almost always going to find negative articles or videos about them. Though some of them may be legit. Meaning they may have customers that had bad experience. But more often than not, they are leveraging what you call negative marketing.

The Truth About Negative Marketing

They are writing these blog articles or creating videos, not because they want to act like a “super hero” or “whistleblower”, but they are actually making money from it.

Here are a few examples:

There’s this Youtube creator who made a video content about me and the title was: “Is Fibo Lim a Scam? Legit ba si Fibo Lim?” Then in his video, he talk about for the next 10 minutes but by the end of the video, he then recommended his own product and service.

So people who know who I am, will eventually be curious. They will watch his video and if they agree with him, will eventually buy his product or service.

Basically, he is using my brand to sell his own product and service! I had to personally connect with him and request for him to take down that video.

Another example would be Bro Bo Sanchez, a spiritual leader, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur. He has impacted millions of people lives through his message, programs, books and contents. Yet, there was this Forex company who then use his name, created an article about him and then enticing people to get into investing in Forex.

Another person I follow is Chinkee Tan. He is a motivational speaker and has helped millions of people get out of debt and helped become savers and investors. When he sells his programs and courses in his social media account, he lets people comment on the chat box for those who are interested. You’ll see thousands of comments from interested people who would want to avail his courses. Unfortunately, there are those unethical marketers who would then reply to these interested prospects, using Chinkee’s name or pretending to be part of Chinkee’s team to get clients and sales.

Another negative marketing tactic they do is through creating blog articles. There’s this blog talking about me, telling his readers that: “Fibo Lim is a scam!” but when you read his blog, you’ll notice this tiny advertisements scattered throughout the blog. These are called Google Adsense, and when people land on his site, read the article and click on those ads, he’ll make money.

These are just some of the many unethical ways of making money. Just imagine, you’re the one building your brand. You’re the one building your career. And somebody else makes money by using your brand, ride on your hard work and effort, use your name or worst, even ruin your reputation for their own sake.

This doesn’t just happen in the Philippine Marketing, this is also applicable with international public figures like Robert Kiyosaki, Tai Lopez, Tony Robbins and the like.

Why is Negative Marketing Effective?

So, why is this effective and why do marketers use this? It’s because people are highly reactive to negative things.

Just like news, when the news is positive, it doesn’t gain that much attention. But when it is negative like death, rape, plane crush, and the like, it garners attention.

That’s why most of the news are 90% negative.

Same with social media, when people talk about negative things, they spread faster. They have the potential to go viral.

Now, when you create a negative title, headline, content or review about a public figure or a brand name, it gets faster views.

So the faster the views, the faster you can make money.

Now, don’t get the wrong idea. If you are considering of doing these unethical marketing strategies, I’m sorry to say but that is the worst way of making money online. It’s not a long-term strategy. And you’ll never really build a stable and sustainable business doing that.

So next time you read a negative review about a certain public figure, make sure to verify it first. Are they really giving their honest opinion, or are they using negative marketing? If they are making money out of the content they are making, then it’s not genuine. It’s negative marketing.

So, is Fibo Lim a Scam?

Now, that feels weird asking myself. Obviously, I’m going to say “NO.” But instead of me answering and defending myself, I’ll let my students and those who follow me answer that.
